Preparing for summer requires a lot of effort and time, so with the team, we joke that it is never enough to implement all our plans and goals in 24 hours of a day. The CEO of any company is no doubt one of the busiest people in the team. We met with Rokas for a quick online chat, and now we share his thoughts with you.
-Rokas, can you tell us how you came up with the idea to create Biomedicanna?
-The history and beginning of Biomedicanna are pretty simple. We were a group of several friends, one of us worked closely with patients with various health problems for whom our products were making life easier. However, we worked as wholesalers, so we considered other companies to be our partners and not people themselves. As time went by, more and more people contacted us interested in our products – they approached us directly asking for various hemp products. We then created Biomedicanna to make life easier for both those people and ourselves because until then, we were shipping products from our own office, which took even more time. The page acted as access for anyone to buy hemp products on their own using discounts we send them at a better price than anywhere else on the market; this is still one of our top priorities.
-I believe that the switch from being wholesalers to retailers was not that easy, was it?
-We started Biomedicanna with a clear goal, which we had to reach relying on our investments, so there, of course, were difficulties. One of the major obstacles was that the fundamental things we needed to launch the business were quite expensive for our pockets. Programming, copywriting, descriptions, photos and everything else other companies buy from experienced service providers and pay a lot of money were simply too expensive. We then hired our friends because we could pay them when we had free money; we often gave them products instead of payments. Also, we were only a few initially, so we multitasked a lot to find fulfilment centres, packaging and storage providers. All this would have been faster and better if we had more hands in the team and time; therefore, the very first launch took us about half a year.
-What about partnerships? Were you struggling with that as well?
-I will be frank, what we are doing other people still find strange and incomprehensible. To survive, we need to educate people as much as possible and provide them with quality information. In this case, working in the wholesale market was a little easier when comparing those jobs to retail, yet, now those partnerships are more tied to the work that needs to be done, as it allows us to strive and look for better solutions constantly. The partnerships were both better and worse, but basically, we can say that their quality depends on the time you put into building them – how much you invest is equal to how much you get back. The better the quality, the more pleasant it is to share your work with others.
-What then are the most outstanding achievement of Biomedicanna?
-The most prominent win I'd like to name was our ability to launch a business in the first place because we faced a lot of obstacles with payment processing companies. We wanted the period from the customer's order to the receiving it to be as quick as possible, so they will not have to wait until we physically receive the payment, approve it, and ship the products. It turns out that both the most significant setback and the biggest win were the process of making Biomedicanna happen. Everything else is additional processes that we do every day – all tasks are small achievements.
-Do you think about things you would now do differently?
-Oh, a lot of things now we would do differently. Processes, priorities, platforms, maybe all of our communication would be completely different… I would have done many things differently based on our team's experience, but it is crucial to think and do those things differently to improve. The launching process was a good lesson not only for us but also for our customers as during that time we received a lot of feedback on products, where and when we could do things better. Most of our clients are people who need our help and hemp. It makes you stretch and succeed.
-What would be the future of Biomedicanna? What are plans already in your mind?
-Indeed, there are two main things on which all of our plans revolve. The first thing is to maintain the same or even achieve higher products quality. It is not difficult to keep it – we apply already tested processes and use the same raw materials. However, we are always looking for ways to improve the products and think about what new types of hemp we can have to have access to even more cannabinoids and make all of our products full spectrum. Maybe we can somehow purify the substances differently, maybe use different and more convenient packaging?
The other thing is to strive to reduce the prices of products in the shortest possible time so that as many customers can afford and use them to feel the benefits themselves. I genuinely think that the cost of the products is still too high, although it has already decreased from the initial point. Hence, the optimization of various processes is essential and is already in progress.
